IntroductionThe BFG is one of Roald Dahl’s most lovable creations! See how much more fun you have on this WQ as you jump into one of these exciting projects.
TaskYou will choose ONE of the five projects below to complete by the deadline provided.
Process
--the reference section in encyclopedias --the OPAC for books in the nonfiction section on your topic --the Internet using the suggested web sites for each project
--What did I do that was really good? --How could I do better next time? --Which sources helped me the most to learn about my project on The BFG? ProjectsUseful (and fun!) web sites for The BFG: The Official Roald Dahl site (just for fun!) Activity to complete while reading
Create two dream jars. One should be of a Trogglehumper and the other should be of a Golden Phizzwizard. Please remember that once dreams are caught, they are no longer invisible, so you need to include in your jars a substance that resembles each dream. Please label your dream jars as well. (Refer to chapter 12 “Dream-Catching” for help.)
Pretend that you are Sophie and you have been captured by the BFG. Write journal entries that Sophie might have put in her journal or diary about her experience. You must have at least 10 entries and they must be in the form of a book or journal.
Create 5-10 postcards that Sophie could have sent to her friends back in the orphanage. You must make one side with different pictures of where she is, and the other side must be filled in with the name and address of her friend and a brief message to them. Each postcard must be different and unique. Refer to the US Postal Service for sizes of real postcards
Create a model of a giant using clay and the descriptions from the book. Please stick strictly to how the book describes him. This project must be neat and show effort. Super Cool Modeling Clay Recipe
5. The BFG’s BFD There are several words throughout the story, which the giants have made up. Most of them are closely related to actual English words however. In this project you must create a dictionary for these made up words. Each entry must include the word, its definition, the page where it is found in the book, and a sample sentence of how it is used.
EvaluationYou will receive 1 test grade for completing this project.
ConclusionAt the end of this project you will have had as much fun as Sophie did with the Big Friendly Giant! CreditsClip art courtesy of Barnes and Noble.
